PSG Edges Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the prestigious cup on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck two times late to seize a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the dying moments to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
